New Beginnings is an odyssey that inextricably links the lives of four women who fight their personal demons to find the strength to love. Lauren Walker and Maggie Sullivan meet in a quiet lakeside vacation point and have a spontaneous attraction to each other that sparks immediately. The pace of events crashing around them supersedes the speed of their romance. Lauren’s mother a domineering woman, who has been the driving force behind Lauren’s career as a successful doctor, doesn’t approve the relationship. However ends up being reluctantly a pivotal catalyst, to not only ensuring their love is the real thing, but sends them on a journey of discovery. That painfully pulls Maggie into the equation in a way she never expected or wanted because of her desperation to keep her own past secret. Those events inevitably connect them to the path of Harriet Aristides and Nichola Ralston whose own journey of love is far from simple.
Tragedy appears to be the middle name of Harriet, and she wears the glove so well it is hard to believe she will ever be truly happy again after a terrible accident robs of her of the woman she loves. Corporate intrigue and the promise of wonderful discoveries, however make up the rest of her life. She enters the unknown realm of a field trip into the jungles of South America with a small team of people who work for her. Nichola (Nicky) is one of those people and she has a personal secret. If Harriett discovers her secret it would dramatically change the way that Harriet views their budding friendship in the confines of the jungle. Nicky, for her part, sets about innocently to change the way Harriet looks at life and leads her back to a place where she can love again. There is no quick fix, and misunderstandings and omissions abound, as in all the best laid plans of a relationship.
As things begin to change in Harriet’s world, a dark festering in her mind makes her fearful of relationships outside of her comfort zone. It is then that a situation that she could never prepare for insidiously enters her life. This draws Harriet and Nicky’s lives into that of Lauren and Maggie’s world. Will she allow herself to forgive and forget or withdraw into a world of sorrow?
